Work Rant
work was kinda funny today. I came in when there were plenty of people working the front end (registers for those of you not in retail) so i went and worked on stock for about an hour but when those people left I was needed back where I belong, monkeying around on register. "OOH OOH EEE EEE your total is $19.95 ... can I see your licence with this" *wave hands emphatically over head while jumping around* No, i guess i don't act like a monkey, but that would be pretty unexpected. Someone might actually pay attention or remeber me. Both of my co-workers were given breaks and the manager (who hadn't been on the floor since we were over-staffed) thought it would be a good idea to send someone home. I didn't argue and left. I probably left them understaffed for closing.
People are really funny. We close at nine. No biggie right? I mean who really needs crafts so desperately that we need to stay open any later? "But ... but if i don't get more yarn to knit tonight my knitting levels will plummet and i'll die ... die!" We lock the front doors and damn is it fun to turn people away. It happens. There is one door to the lobby to store and after close it is left unlocked and still swings open with sensors but the main doors into the store from the front doors are locked. The out door stays on with a sensor so that those who are checking out right at close can still get out without help. People actually go in the small out-door after finding the front doors locked and insist that what they need is so important that 15 people's plans for the night should be delayed for them. I really like to be the one to say "I am sorry but we really are closed." They usually say something like, "but i am only looking for one thing." To which i reply, "I'm sorry we are closed." The few times I broke down and let them in, they wound up spending waaaay too much time and needed a lot of help. Hmmm this reminds me of something that has been in the news about Oprah and Hermes. When i do it, it has nothing to do with race, I mean I can only remember ever turning away caucasian women. I just want to go home. It has never happened with a famous person though. I wonder if i would act differently if i recognized someone. I really think though that just 'cause someone is famous or rich, it doesn't mean that they should get any special treatment.
Anyway that was a long post today hopefully it was the tiniest bit interresting.

i started my post thinking that would just talk about work stuff then i got on the topic of closing and if you read the flip side in the dispatch at all last week you would see that Oprah story every day. It just kinda had to do with what i was talking about so i threw it in there.
What are you talking about? Degree sign?
